Activities of the undergraduate chapters

Zeta- Randolph-Macon College
The chapter raised $500 for MDA, and also raised funds for the Ashland Heart Walk. Zeta brothers also joined other local Greek members in collecting almost $30,000 for the Children's Miracle Network. Nathon King was awarded Greek Man of the Year. The chapter ran "Kid's Zone" during a home football game which provided a place for parents and alumni to leave their children while they enjoyed the game.

Theta- University of Kentucky
The brothers of Theta reported the highest GPA on campus (3.1). Four seniors received a 4.0 GPA. The chapter held a raffle before Christmas raising funds for MDA and are planning their annual Greek Sing with a goal of raising $10,000 more. With the assistance of alumni, Theta is beginning to raise funds for a new chapter house.

Iota- Furman University
The brothers enjoyed participating in the Adopt-A-Highway program. Benton Pitkanen was elected president of the sophomore class and is a member of the academic calendar committee. Rush Davidson was elected president of the American Chemical Society at Furman and is an active member of the premedical honor society. Bo Moore will likely be the starting quarterback for the Paladin football team in the fall. Also on the football team are Brent Blankenship and Lockwood Holmes. Noble Judy is the top player on the Furman golf team. Will Bouton and Trent Sansbury, both recent Iota graduates, signed NFL contracts with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals, respectively. Neal Maru, Lee Murphy, and Matt Dobbs were accepted to medical school.

Sigma- Davidson College
The largest event of the fall was the Sigma sponsorship of the Second David Blaylock Memorial Lecture which featured Dr. Harriet Lerner, author of "The Dance of Connection: How to Talk to Someone When You're Mad, Hurt, Scared, Frustrated, Insulted, Betrayed, or Desperate." The lecture was presented to students, faculty and the local community. Sigma raised over $7,000 for MDA through a lock-up. Events such as homecoming, Klub KA, Hurricane Hugo, and Space Jam continued the tradition of "grandiose" celebrations.

Phi- Birmingham Southern University
The annual golf tournament raised $3,000 for MDA. The Phi brothers continue to show leadership on the IFC as Wiley Truss is president and Jason Taylor serves as secretary. Brother Adam Pease plays centerfield on the varsity baseball team while Richard Turner plays tennis.

Alpha Alpha- University of the South
The third Saturday in October was spent cleaning trash along local roads. Taylor Goodall was recently inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science academic honor society. Chris Parker was selected to write for the campus newspaper. Mike Brown, Houston Middleton, Trey Laflar, Nick Williams, and Matt Austin represent the chapter on the Sewanee basketball team. The Alpha Alpha intramural football team won the school championship. The chapter is  preparing to celebrate its 120th anniversary in 2003.

Alpha Beta- University of Alabama
The chapter raised $6,000 for MDA through the annual golf tournament held during homecoming weekend. Brothers volunteered time for "Project Real," a tutoring program at East Tuscaloosa Family Resource Center. For the second consecutive year, the chapter was honored by Order of Omega as the most outstanding fraternity. Cochrane Jamison is the SGA senator for the School of Engineering. Four brothers are serving as university ambassadors. William Norvell was elected executive vice president of the IFC.

Alpha Epsilon- Rhodes College
The chapter raised $500 to purchase gifts for four children through Adopt-A-Family.  Seven brothers are on the Rhodes College soccer team: Matthew Bechmann, Justin Sampson (all-conference), Jeffrey Wishnew, Bruno (Nick) Frankel, Paul Koshgerian, Bradley Stoner, and James Whalen. Brian McCarthy ranked second in the NCAA Division III regional meet and qualified for the championship. Rhodes football team included brothers John Hendricks, Adam Aubel and Jared (Andy) English, who was named all-conference: second team offense and second team defense. Blake Schaefering was featured as a model in the December issue of Maxim magazine. James Whalen and Blake Schaefering earned parts in an episode of As the World Turns which was filmed at Rhodes.

Alpha Eta- Westminster College
Alpha Eta's philanthropy efforts this year have been incredible, raising $12,000 for MDA in a Jail-Break fundraiser. The chapter participated in activities for Habitat for Humanity, Haven House, Phi Beta Lambda's Adopt-A-Family, and Pascal's Pal. They also participated in "Into the Streets," a city wide service program. Last semester, 14 brothers achieved recognition on the Dean's List and seven received a perfect 4.0 GPA. Brad Thoenen is chairman of SGA finance committee. Jay Howard was chairman of the social judiciary board and vice president of Finance for Blue Blazers Investment Club. Ryan Braden was one of two students selected as representatives for the Campus Leadership Center. Alpha Eta is represented in campus sports by Gino Paternostro, Cole Prenger and Keven Kettinger on the soccer team and Phil Lee and Brock Ezard on the football team.

Alpha Theta- Transylvania University
Ben Miller, Jake Fouts, Danny McCamish, Joe Jenner and Perry Greer operated a "ring toss" for the Transylvania Crimson Christmas in December. Edwin Saunier, Thompson Haggin and Vance Marshall are currently serving on SGA. Alpha Theta brothers on university sports teams include: Andrew Cagle (basketball), Daniel Knausz (basketball), Chapman Hopkins (basketball), Vance Marshall (cross country), Travis Amos (cross country), John Hayne (golf), Jason Mullins (golf), Edwin Saunier (swim), Chris Qualls (swim), Michael Rogers (swim). Vance Marshall served as IFC fall recruitment chair.

Alpha Iota- Centenary College
The annual MDA Lock-Up was scheduled for late January. This year the chapter continued their tradition of community service through Adopt-A-Road, local food drive, and cans for the Salvation Army. Alpha Iota recently had the second highest GPA on campus. Robert Savage is currently serving as IFC president, Conglomerate publisher, and admissions school ambassador. Others involved on campus include Greg Hemphill (Lacrosse), Alex Lu (Honor Court member), Brett Klesitz (cross country), and Chad Stroope (soccer). During Greek Week, Alpha Iota won the penny wars and William Lara was crowned Greek god.

Alpha Kappa- University of Missouri
The brothers of Alpha Kappa are planning their annual MDA event, which is set for spring of this year. Over the past two years, the chapter has raised nearly $20,000 for MDA and hopes to make around $10,000 this year. The brothers have been busy with service all over campus this year raising $3,668 and putting in 131 hours in planned service events with eight sororities. The Mizzou brothers are proud of Greg Humphries, Nate Sheda, Brian McKienzie and Ryan Joyce for their perfect GPAs. The brothers are involved in numerous other campus activities including Summer Welcome Leaders, Mizzou Football, Tiger Basketball Managing, Dance Marathon Steering Committee, MSA, Sigma Rho Sigma, and MU Hockey and Lacrosse. Finally, brothers are leading campus IFC with brothers on IFC, Formal Recruitment Guiding, Greek Judicial Board and Greek Week Steering Committee.

Alpha Tau- Hampden-Sydney College
Alpha Tau brothers, along with the Longwood University ASA, hosted a Christmas party for underprivileged children. They also participated in a canned food drive and Adopt-a-Highway. Nicholas Camara received the Madison scholarship. Davis Hunt, Dallas Christian, Trip Copeland, Wes Lawson, Judson McAdams, and Luke Shirah were recognized among Who's Who. Brothers are active in campus organizations ranging from student government to Big Brother and the college activities committee. Wes Lawson and William Horner are serving on the IFC.

Alpha Upsilon- University of Mississippi
Three members of Alpha Upsilon were chosen to UM's 2002-2003 Who's Who which recognizes 95 top UM students for academics, activities and leadership. The brothers selected were Jake Dickerson, Will Bardwell, and Doug Zeigler.

Alpha Phi- Duke University
The brothers of Alpha Phi boast the highest fraternity GPA on campus. In the fall, they helped prepare meals for the Durham Rescue Shelter and raised money for the Ronald McDonald House through the "Tabs for Kids" program. Brian Diekman served as an assistant basketball coach at the North Carolina School for Math and Science. Van Williamson was elected president of the class of 2005. Hamilton Boggs co-founded the Center for Race Relations on campus. Also, the chapter contains two student government legislators and three members of the varsity golf team, including one captain.

Beta Alpha- University of Missouri- Rolla
Beta Alpha brothers have been very active in philanthropy in activities ranging from their annual rib sale to giving blood, tutoring children, work days, and helping Habitat for Humanity. The rib sale raised over $1,100 for MDA. Combined, the brothers are involved in 38 different campus organizations.

Beta Beta- Bethany College
Eight brothers of Beta Beta will be competing on the Bethany College baseball team this spring, including: Martin Ramsay, Todd Welsh, Matthew Raiti, Brian Johnson, Anton Langer, Benjamin Fessler, Christopher McDonand, and Jason Fogg (student assistant coach). John Appleby is serving as IFC president.

Beta Zeta- University of Florida
The brothers raised $300 for MDA at a golf tournament. This year's tournament is scheduled for March 22, 2003. Members involved in student government include Rob Batsel (senator), Beau Oswald (senator), Toby Philpot, Jimmy Dunn, and Scott Hurt. KA is represented on the varsity football team by Casey Griffith (captain) and
Hunter Cain.

Beta Upsilon- Marshall University
Beta Upsilon raised $500 for MDA by hosting "Strike Away for MDA," a bowl-a-thon. Also, brothers participated in Marshall's Sweat Equity Day, collected food for local food pantries, donated blood, and volunteered in Marshall's annual campus Christmas decorating day. John Pennington was elected as IFC vice president for finance. Justin Ruble writes for the Parthenon, school paper, and reports on MU Report. Eric Gibson stunts for the varsity cheerleading squad. The chapter placed third in an annual flag football tournament.

Beta Omega- Washington College
The chapter raised $700 for MDA through a 3-on-3 basketball tournament and raffle. Brothers also participated in several community events including two AIDS walks, Washington College "In the Streets," Casey Academic Center clean up, and a Christmas party for area children. Scholarship honors were received by Rui Pereira, Larry Krug, Dean Zang, and Richard Wallace. Brothers are very involved in a variety of campus organizations and sports teams.

Gamma Zeta- University of Southern Mississippi
While maintaining their number one GPA in the all fraternity average, the Gamma Zeta men are busy serving their community from projects like Habitat for Humanity to collecting donations for the Salvation Army. Eighty percent of the chapter has kept the highways clean through the Adopt-a-highway program. The men have worked with four sororities to raise money for their national philanthropies. Brothers participated in Trick or Treat on Greek Street on Halloween. The Southern Miss 6th annual fishing tournament to benefit MDA will be held on April 19, 2003. Gamma Zetas are active in BSM, Wesley, Student Alumni Association, Catholic Student Association, Army ROTC, and College Republicans.

Gamma Rho- East Carolina University
Gamma Rho sponsored a blood drive, participated in a heartwalk for the American Heart Association and sponsored a canned food drive for a local food bank. Jay Landen, Matt Weaver, and Matt Zadnik were initiated into Order of Omega. Matt Zadnik was elected IFC executive vice president. Rob Nipper was selected Panhellenic Greek man of the year. Dr. Chuck Grant, faculty advisor, was awarded IFC advisor of the year.

Gamma Sigma- West Texas A&M
Brothers of Gamma Sigma participated in the annual campus-wide "Hanging of the Lights," where students and faculty come together to decorate the West Texas campus. The chapter also assisted with the Eveline Rivers Christmas Project. They moved thousands of toys from Toys-R-Us to a distribution center and helped package and wrap the gifts for children in need. Wesley Schevers was first team all-conference for the Lone Star Conference. Shawn Walker and Wesley Schevers were scholarship athletes.

Gamma Tau- Sam Houston State University
Brothers at Sam Houston State are helping their corner of Texas by donating Halloween costumes to local elementary school children, setting up for "Fair on the Square" to benefit the city of Huntsville, and working a haunted house to benefit Walker County. The men are planning a golf tournament to benefit MDA in the spring. Brother Jonathan Greene works on SGA. Joseph Templet is on IFC while Aaron Holbrock participates in Ducks Unlimited.

Gamma Upsilon- Texas A&M/Commerce
Airband, a lip-sync contest conducted annually for the past 22 years, was a success raising $2,000 for MDA. The event involves participants from the Greek and non-Greek communities. The chapter continues its participation in Adopt-A-Highway and is involved in the upcoming community program called "Big Event" scheduled for April 5, 2003. Aaron Stingfellow and Brent Swanson both earned a 4.0 GPA. Jeremy Vancy was inducted into the Alpha Chi honors fraternity. Matthew Gaskill, John Mahaffey, and George Light served on the University Programming Council (George Light served as president). Matthew Gaskill and Adam Jones were both involved in the university's homecoming committee. Orion Casper is IFC vice president. Gamma Upsilon is intramural champion for the fourth consecutive year and the largest fraternity on campus. The chapter had a successful homecoming/note-burning party with great participation from undergraduates, alumni and families.

Gamma Psi- Northwestern State University
The fourth annual KA/MDA Golf Classic raised $5,000. Ninety-five percent of the active chapter participated along with many alumni and local residents. Brothers also participated in a blood drive, Toys for Tots, and assisted the Boys & Girls Club. David Frederick and Jeremy Antee received scholarship awards. Lee Cummins is a Freshman Connector. Mark Miciotto, Bobby Rooney, and David Smith are serving as NSU ambassadors.

Gamma Omega- Midwestern State University
In October, the Gamma Omega haunted house raised $9,500 with the Witchita Falls Crimestoppers. Also with Crimestoppers, the chapter raised $11,000 during a garage sale in June. Brian Keith Fancher is on the MSU football team and Joshua Ward is ranked 14th nationally in powerlifting. Robert Masters is president of the MSU Campus Crimestoppers and Brian Delcoure is serving as treasurer. Gamma Omega received IFC awards for community service and new member education through the chapter accreditation program. Three generations of Gamma Omega brothers were present at Brother James Blackwood's wedding.

Delta Phi- Jacksonville State University
Jacksonville State brothers have a team in this year's "Up 'til Dawn," benefiting St. Judes Research Hospital. Delta Phi also held the 3rd Annual Gus Edwards Classic raising over $2,000 for MDA. In 2003, a new scholarship program will be initiated using funds awarded to the chapter for winning fraternity of the year honors. The chapter won bowling, badminton, and are currently in second place in the all-sports competition. They won first place in homecoming. Cassidy Lee Anderson was elected IFC president and Christopher Cook is the new IFC secretary/treasurer.

Delta Lambda- Middle Tennessee State University
Samuel Adams was elected onto the 2002 homecoming court. Delta Lambda brothers took part in a MDA walk with Alpha Omicron Pi in November. The walk raised $1,000. In late November, the MTSU football coach, Andy McCollum, hosted his weekly television show from the Delta Lambda chapter house. Along with Alpha Delta Pi sorority, the brothers donated a DVD player and a collection of movies to the Tennessee Baptist Children's Home. They spent a few hours at the home interacting with the children.

Delta Xi- McNeese State University
Brothers of Delta Xi participated in the McNeese State University Christmas Food Drive in December. KA collected more goods than any other campus organization.

Delta Pi- Missouri State Southern College
The chapter members cleaned the stretch of highway in front of the campus. The bi-annual football run raised $500 for MDA this fall. Wesley Carrillo was selected as an orientation leader and tour guide to assist incoming freshmen. Jeremy Hollingshead and Wesley Carillo have qualified for the national debate tournament.

Delta Psi- Appalachian State University
The chapter did a roadside clean-up in October. Blake Pridgen, Robert Elliot, and Ford Kock attended an IFC workshop, "Seeking Alliance through Leadership and Diversity."

Epsilon Alpha- University of South Alabama
Teamed with the Delta Sigma sisters of Kappa Delta, the USA brothers won Greek Week by raising over $1,500 in pennies in one day and collecting 3,000 cans in the canned food drive. In June of 2002, the Epsilon Alpha brothers hosted a golf tournament for MDA and raised $5,000 in its first year. Stay tuned for the 2003 tournament planned for sometime in April.

Epsilon Delta- Texas A&M University
The brothers of Epsilon Delta participated in Greek week and the Brazos County Mason's Lodge Breakfast. Michael Yates was selected as a President's Endowed Scholar. Several brothers are involved on campus including:  Forrest Thompson on the newspaper staff, Bruce Cannon who serves on the student minority committee and as an IFC officer. Also, Shelby Gibbs and Nick Bennett serve on the IFC. Richard Greene, Jeff Compton and Lee Phillips are officers in Order of Omega.

Epsilon Iota- Southwestern Texas State University
Brother Mitch Sheaffer is nearing the end of his IFC presidency while Travis Dalrymple was elected new vice president of recruitment. The Epsilon Iotas have earned the highest GPA of not only all fraternities, but also the highest on campus. Leadership and grades are supplemented by 714 hours of service. At Trick-o-Treat Fest, the 15 brothers ran a haunted house. Thirty Kappa Alphas made the cover of their town paper by cleaning and clearing the Dunbar neighborhood. The brothers drove alumni around town for their school and also landscaped a local elementary school. Teamed with Delta Zeta sorority, the Southwest Texas State brothers won homecoming after their victories in the soap-box race and float contest.

Epsilon Nu- Georgia College & State University
In November, 24 brothers embarked on an annual 1,500 mile pilgrimage to Lexington, Va. They also visited Appomattox. This year, the chapter changed from working with Toys for Tots in favor of a local project called "The Mentors Project," a group that works with those less fortunate, particularly assistance for disabled parents. The chapter collected toys from brothers and through a special party with toys as the admission. The project was a great success, and they are encouraged for the future because the brothers plan to work for the children throughout the year.

Epsilon Sigma- University of West Florida
After winning intramural fall soccer, racquetball, and warball, the men are confident they will continue to hold the leading point standings for intramurals. The brothers raised $400 for MDA on November 16, 2002 at a "Roadblock." Mario Niera and Nathaniel Robinson participated in UWF's annual Big Argo/Little Argo, which gives eighth-graders from a local middle school a chance to visit college for a day. Brother John P. Hanley is treasurer of the IFC. Brother Brad Davis, current IFC vice president, has been nominated for Greek Week Chair. The men of Epsilon Sigma are proud of their brothers Scott Lynn, who is engaged, and Ryan Kerr, who is married.

Epsilon Upsilon- California State University- Bakersfield
The chapter has been working actively with the local MDA on events including cosponsoring with local firefighters the "Fill the Boot for MDA" program as well as serving as MDA sheriffs for a recent lock-up. Number I Roger Eagleton was elected chairman of the Student Union, Inc., board of directors while recent graduate Mark Salvaggio was recognized for outstanding service as student director on the board. Matthew Escalante is serving as director of intramural sports for CSU-Bakersfield. Epsilon Upsilon captured their third intramural softball championship. Mike Ross was recognized for his professional media work by the Kern County Press Club. Recent graduates Micah Roberts and Josh Stuart were accepted to graduate school to study medicine and law, respectively.

Epsilon Phi- George Mason University
This fall, the chapter raised close to $1,000 for MDA with a date auction fundraiser. Epsilon Phi's soccer team won third overall in the IFC conference. Jon Waller was elected purser for the IFC. The chapter had an intercampus mixer with the ladies of Alpha Chi Omega from the University of Virginia in October.

Zeta Gamma- Goldey-Beacom College
Brothers of Zeta Gamma are leading their campus in service, education and scholastics. Josh Elton is the VP of the Student Government Association, with Brother Jeff Mazzella as treasurer. Darryl Sandoe is the president of the Resident Student Association (RSA) and the American representative for the International Student Association. Andrew Walls is the vice president of RSA. John Carroll, William Laurento, Josh Elton and Jeff Mazzella are the founders of the Society for Human Resource Development. The men cleaned up a path behind the Goldey-Beacom campus through the Adopt-a-trail program and raised $220 for MDA through donations. They also volunteer by giving campus tours to visitors and are collecting for Project Kappa Alpha Rose, the Katie Koestner fund.  Brothers presented "How to be a Sexpert" as a campus event to promote safe-dating practices for all students. Patrick Forey received a KA scholarship, MBNA scholarship and two Goldey-Beacom College scholarships. Steve Adams is getting scholarships from Air Force Aid, MBNA and two from Goldey-Beacom. Stephen C. Hudson is the winner of the Thomas Tucker Memorial Scholarship and Brother Chris Kutsch won a $10,000 academic scholarship.

Zeta Zeta- Wingate University
Brothers are busy planning a new MDA fundraising event, "Bed Race." Shawn Searles and Wes Gray have received scholarship honors. Brothers actively involved on campus include: Wes Gray (football, IFC), Jonathan Cofer (IFC president, cheerleader, resident assistant, lacrosse goalie), Mark Gray (IFC, cheerleader), Stepere Schmidt (SGA, IFC, dean's list). The chapter held two dances with an elderly dance club.

Zeta Kappa- University of West Georgia
The chapter raised $1,500 for MDA during a golf tournament and delivered food for an MDA Lock-up. Brothers delivered over 150 cans of food to the local soup kitchen for Thanksgiving. They also participated in "Holiday Helpers," a local program that helps area elderly shop for the holidays, and a tutoring program. Russell Nix was initiated into Order of Omega. Blake Justus and Chris Soltis were appointed to SGA committees. Josh Johnson was elected IFC vice president for philanthropy/community service. Chris Soltis was elected IFC vice president for administrative affairs. Zeta Kappa placed first in intramural paint ball, third in flag football, and third in homecoming float competition.

Zeta Lambda- Bowling Green State University
The annual golf tournament for MDA is scheduled for April 26, 2003. Two Zeta Lambda brothers are on the IFC executive board: Derek Cohen is chief justice and Tim Duffin is vice president of external affairs. The chapter has helped several charities and built Greek unity by participating in the following events: Phi Mu's Human Foosball benefiting Children's Miracle, Alpha Sigma Phi's Mud Volleyball benefiting Canine Companions for Independence, Alpha Xi Delta's Fuzzie Football benefiting the American Lung Association, Delta Gamma's Anchor Splash benefiting Toledo Sight Center, Chi Omega's Relay for Wishes benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Lambda Chi Alpha's national food drive, Alpha Omnicron Pi's Dip 'n' Dunk benefiting arthritis research, and Kappa Sigma and Chi Omega's Tricycle Races benefiting the American Cancer Society of Northwest Ohio. The brothers also served the community by volunteering at the local senior center and the Children's Resource Center. Zeta Lambda received an IFC award for most involved fraternity on campus. Jordan Ohler is president of the University Activities Organization. David Humphrey is director of Dance Marathon. Other members are involved with club sports, campus tours, and homecoming.

Zeta Nu- University of North Florida
The Zeta Nu men are involved in a variety of activities around campus, including mentoring programs on campus, winning Delta Gamma's Anchor Splash and Zeta Tau Alpha's Fraternity Round-up. Zeta Nu held a bowling tournament and a brother auction for MDA. All brothers participated in the Jacksonville MDA Jingle Bell Walk/Run and are planning both golf and fishing tournaments later this year. Brother Brett Hartley received the "Knight Scholastic" award for having the highest GPA of active brothers. The chapter has the third highest GPA of all fraternities. Chas Jordan and Jason Jones both serve as officers of SG on campus, as Budget Allocations Chair and Peer Student Advocate, respectively. John Bass, Phil Thompson, and Brett Hartley were all introduced into Order of Omega. Chas Jordan, a member of the University Scholars Honor Society, and Sean Foy founded a group called Students with Osprey Spirit to promote spirit and pride at UNF. Since chartering, the chapter enjoyed its first Old South, including a weeklong competition among sororities to raise funds for MDA. The first Zeta Nu chapter Kappa Alpha Rose is Becky Russo.

(Provisional)- Murray State University
The first induction ceremony was held in September at the First United Methodist Church in Murray, Ky. The first recruitment class was inducted in December.
