On November 18, 2002, the National Administrative Office briefly suspended the charter of Lambda Chapter at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

The suspension was in effect pending the outcome of an investigation of activities at a Halloween costume party cosponsored by the chapter at the Zeta Psi fraternity house. Some guests at the party were costumed with their faces painted black. Pictures of these and other guests were later posted to a website for viewing.

Wiese contacted the owner of the website who agreed to remove the offensive pictures. After meeting with members of the chapter and university officials, the National Administrative Office concluded that the event did not occur on Kappa Alpha property and no members were involved.

The chapter was reinstated on November 20, 2002.
