Recruitment and alumni top the message from the Winter 2003 Kappa Alpha Journal

Dear Brothers:

Kappa Alpha Order chapters all over the country are in the midst of chapter recruitment efforts. Based on the numbers being reported to our National Administrative Office, our members are doing well in their efforts to attract young men to KA. These efforts hopefully will lead to the initiation of many fine young men. Throughout these recruitment efforts chapters have a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with our many alumni members who continue to maintain a strong interest in KA because of sons, grandsons, nephews, or friends entering college and showing an interest in joining KA. The alumni desire for the young man recommended to be the recipient of the same great experiences which he had as an undergraduate. There is no better way of improving the alumni participation with your chapter than to reach out to all of these interested alumni and share with them all that your chapter is doing in all aspects of chapter activities and operations.

This issue of The Journal focuses on alumni relations and its integral part of a successful active chapter. Our new column OffCampus highlights various alumni chapters across the country and the activities that they sponsor on behalf of KA. Our alumni chapters are successful because these men have a strong allegiance to Kappa Alpha and want to perpetuate our values, ideals and commitment to the young men that will follow. I encourage all of our active chapters to reach out to an alumni chapter (and vice versa) near you and invite one another to participate in joint functions.  Our alumni brothers are a great resource. Both our undergraduate and alumni members should share the same goal - to continue to make KA the best fraternity on all of the campuses where we are represented.

Additionally, it is only because of dedicated alumni, that we have some of the finest fraternity houses on a number of campuses. Our local housing corporation boards, made up of many alumni, are tremendous assets to chapters such as Beta Epsilon (highlighted in this issue), Gamma Eta, Rho, Nu, Alpha Delta and many others. These gentlemen, along with all of our many volunteers at all levels deserve our sincere appreciation.  The time and effort they give contributes greatly to the quality of programs we can offer, the experiences our undergraduates can participate in, and most importantly, the perpetuation of the KA character, values and ideals.

Finally, as the holidays approach, I would like to express on behalf of Kappa Alpha Order the tremendous gratitude we have for the many brothers, family members and friends who are away from home while they are in service to our country. We are very proud of you.

Happy holidays to you all.

Fraternally,
