Photographer Jack Leigh (Gamma - Georgia ‘68) died on May 19, 2004, after a battle with colon cancer. The last months of his life were filled with joy and love surrounded by his family and friends. His dedication to and love of photography inspired him to continue his work until his last days. His spirit resides in the work he left behind.
Jack was the author of six books of photography documenting the American South. These books include Oystering, Seaport, The Ogeechee, Nets and Doors, his retropective, The Land I’m Bound To, and most recently, Ossabaw: Evocations of an Island, which he produced in collaboration with Allen Campbell and James Kilgo. Ossabaw was released this past April by the University of Georgia Press. Jack was most well known for his image Midnight that graced the cover of the best-selling book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
