Re: Issuance of Provisional Certificate at The George Washington University
By approval of the Advisory Council, Wood Province Commander Douglas Ewalt (BÙ-Washington Coll. ‘71) presented a Provisional Certificate to a group of men at The George Washington University on March 2, 2007. This action officially recognizes the men as a Provisional Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order. Family, friends, sorority representatives, University Administration and many members of the Alumni Advisory Committee (AAC) attended the historic inception ceremony. For the first time in over 47 year, Kappa Alpha Order is once again officially represented by undergraduates in the District of Columbia.
Province Commander Ewalt, assisted by myself and AAC Chairman Arvis Layton (BP-Roanoke ’96), performed the ceremony. The young men were inducted as members awaiting initiation and the first officers were officially installed. The provisional chapter is composed of twenty-eight gentlemen who are active in various activities and organizations across the campus. The 15-man AAC was involved in the recruitment process and has begun meeting on its own as an advisory unit to the chapter.
The new George Washington Provisional Chapter has now undertaken the work of becoming an Active Chapter. Aside from their formal initiation, they are now our brothers. However, this process does include proper education about the Order and our history, as well as the ultimate task of creating a fully operational Active Chapter.
Please join with me as we welcome these new brothers into our Order and as we welcome Kappa Alpha Order back to The George Washington University.
