G. Randy Smith is current the Commander of the John Temple Graves Province in the state of South Carolina. In 1959 Iota Chapter at Furman University initiated him into Kappa Alpha Order. In 1962 he graduated from Furman and in the next year he served as President of the Iota Commission. There he served as Number IX (ritualist) and social chairman. The Iota Commission operated to initiate graduates of Furman University into the Order while fraternities were not allowed to exist at the institution. During this time, Brother Smith served with E. Fleming Mason, former Graves Province Commander and namesake of the E. Fleming Mason Memorial Internship Program for undergraduates today.

He was inducted into the Graves Province Court of Honor in 1986 and in 1991 he began a 16 year term as Alumnus Advisor to the Iota Chapter, again operating at Furman. In 2007 he was tapped to take over as the Graves Province Commander. It was also in that year he was awarded the Knight Commander’s Accolade for service and volunteerism within the Order. He is married to Gwyn W. Smith, a proud Catamount and alumna of Western Carolina University.
