Kappa Alpha Order

Mountaineer turn-around at West Virginia (Alpha Rho)

The Alpha Rho Chapter at West Virginia University had a mere 10 members left before this year. Coming off a one-semester suspension, and organizational changes, the future seemed uncertain.

However, this was the year to restart the chapter and get things going again. National staff, alumni, and the remaining members of the chapter went to work evaluating chapter operations and recruiting the right way.

The chapter started out the year by tabling in the freshman dorms almost every day of the first two weeks. The staff and others would engage freshmen, explain Kappa Alpha values, history, and experience, and answer the tough questions.

Most people say tabling isn’t successful however it led to 50 potential members at the first barbeque informal recruitment event along with 40 potential members who consistently attended every night. When rush week came the 10 active members managed to induct 28 new members to their fall class, nearly quadrupling their total membership in one week. Their restart this fall was an enormous achievement for the chapter and with the new members came the revamping of New Member Education Program, their budget, and recruitment action plan. The chapter elected all new officers for their upcoming year. We congratulate and look forward to the success of Alpha Rho at West Virginia University.
