As chapters are gearing up for events this spring semester, here are a few tips to keep in mind when hosting social events. A successful event is one that is well planned out and organized, from the time and place, to the food that will be served at the event. Make sure that all chapter events are planned and held within the provisions of the Kappa Alpha Order Risk Management Policy, Kappa Alpha Laws and regulations, and the policies of your educational institution. If you have questions as to if your event is being planned within these policies do not hesitate to contact your Associate Director for Chapter Services. Planning and hosting an event that is safe and fun for our members and guests should be your number one objective as an officer.
In planning events this spring be mindful of the nature of the event, where the event will be held, the overall purpose of the event, and how the outside community will view the chapter event. Make very sure that the event is in good taste and will not portray your chapter, university, members, or the Order in a negative light. In regards to planning spring social events reference Executive Council regulation R16-113, which outlines what attire is acceptable for chapter members to wear. In planning an event that will take place outside of your province make sure to reference Executive Council Regulation R16-112 that outlines who needs to be notified if your chapter plans to travel outside of the province for an event. If your chapter plans to travel out of town for an event look into making sure that everyone in attendance will have safe travel to and from the destination as well as safe travel in the destination city.
As a constant reminder to chapter officers and members, please create and maintain an environment that is safe for our members and our guests as well as those outside of the event. Plan and prepare well in advance of the event and educate all attendees of the rules and policies of the event. If you and your chapter need help planning an event or have questions about event planning, please do not hesitate to contact your ADCS or your Province Commander for assistance.
