Hurricane Joaquin Precautions

joaquin

This afternoon Hurricane Joaquin intensified and now is listed as a Category 4 hurricane. Prediction models have estimated that it will hit the United States early next week, and it will affect the majority of the states on the East coast. Also, many governors have declared a states of emergency, some areas have already been evacuated.

We ask that all chapters on the East Coast stay tuned to local and national weather advisories and take the proper precautions, like knowing the evacuation routes, having a disaster supply kit (flashlight, batteries, first aid supplies, etc.), and establishing a communication plan.

You can visit www.ready.gov/hurricanes for more information on being prepared for Hurricane Joaquin.

Also, Kappa Alpha Order’s insurance company, Holmes Murphy, has provided a resource to help those chapters with a house or lodge prepare for the storm. Please review this Hurricane Resource with your Alumnus Advisor and Housing Corporation to ensure you protect your chapter’s assets.

If you have any questions, please contact Director of Risk Management David Merrill or the National Administrative Office at (540) 463-1865.
