Alternatives to Designated Driving Programs

Safe Transport 2By Tullis Beasley

As we open up a busy Fall semester full of recruitment, game days, socials/mixers, and formals we need to get ahead of the curve when it comes to safe transportation of our members and guests. The top priority of every social event should be the safety and well-being of our members and guests. This should be the priority prior to, during, and after all social events.

In order to ensure that our members are safe when traveling to and from social events we need to secure safe and reliable transportation. This can be through campus provided transportation, a licensed taxi company, a charter bus company, or other licensed transportation providers. Because of the additional liability placed on individual members and the chapter, no chapter can organize a designated driver program in which chapter members, new members, and guests are forced or expected to drive others to and from social events.

Take advantage of the resources that are available in your community and on campus to secure safe and reliable transportation. If you have any questions on how to implement safe and secure transportation for your chapter, please contact your ADCS, Greek Advisor, or Director of Risk Management David Merrill.
