KAs ‘guiding light’ to Francis Marion Community in Remembrance of 9/11

The Delta Tau Chapter led students in placing 2,977 American flags at Francis Marion University in remembrance of September 11, 2001.

Three KA brothers died in the terrorist attacks. This was the first year flags were arranged in a 9-11 pattern to commemorate those lives lost. “I thought this would be a great event for us to do that really gets the entire community involved,” said Delta Tau Philanthropy Chair William Burris-Durham ’13.

The event was part of the Never Forget Project, a unique organization that focuses on members of the New York Fire Department impacted by 9/11. NFP not only offers aid to the families of those who died, but also responders still dealing with the effects of that day in the form of cka-9-11-1ancer, heart disease, respiratory illness, and mental health issues.

“This event ties in with KA, because as leaders in our communities and campus, we have to be the guiding light behind which others follow,” said Burris-Durham. “This day should never be forgotten, and hopefully the tradition will continue on long after I graduate next December.”

The committee encouraged donations to the Never Forget Project through the organization’s website. This was the second annual 9/11 remembrance program hosted by Delta Tau.
