Loss of Active Brother at West Virginia
The Alpha Rho chapter at West Virginia University lost one of their brothers, Sean Michael Guthrie ’15, in a tragic accident. He was critically injured after falling from a second floor window sill at their chapter house. Sean, who was from Toms River, New Jersey, was an Industrial Engineering student and the vice president of community relations for the Interfraternity Council.
More than 200 people attended a vigil at Sean’s High School, Toms River South, on Thursday evening to remember the 20-year-old. A gofundme page has raised $20,000 for funeral expenses.
Kappa Alpha Order’s thoughts and prayers are with the Guthrie family and our chapter members at West Virginia University. National Chaplain Dawin P. Knight (Delta Kappa–Stephen F. Austin State ’04) wrote the following prayer for the brothers of Alpha Rho Chapter and all those touched by the loss of Sean Guthrie.
Heavenly Father, these past days have been filled with so many emotions – anguish, pain, confusion, sorrow, and an overwhelming sense of loss. Though we live daily with the reality of death, we still fail to understand it and are never ready for it – especially as it has come to our loved one. We are simply devastated, stunned, hurt. Through the caring presence of your Holy Spirit, minister to our needs. Give comfort, strength, and resolution to the family. Cause them to know your sustaining grace, and keep all of us in the shadow of your care. We pray in Your Name, Amen.
