KA Captain William Pendergast ’04 of the U.S. Marine Corps was named one of Miami University of Ohio’s “18 of the Last 9” 2016 honorees.

The award—based on the “30 under 30” model—honors exceptional young alumnae who embody the university’s values.

Pendergast certainly fits this description. The 2007 graduate has been on active military duty for the past nine years, during which time he has served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Washington D.C.

As Military Social Aide to the President, Pendergast worked closely with President Barack Obama and even got the chance to put his bachelor’s degree in music to good use. He has sung for both the President and Pope Francis, among various government officials.

Pendergast returned to campus Oct. 27-28 to be honored at a dinner among his fellow awardees. He was selected from over 100 nominees in the fourth year of the program.
