Hunt Promoted to Brigadier General
On Wednesday, November 09, 2016, the North Carolina National Guard celebrated the promotion of Durham native, Todd Hunt (Gamma Rho–East Carolina ’84), to the rank of Brigadier General, in the North Carolina Army National Guard.
Hunt has served in the military for more than 29 years.
Hunt currently serves as the North Carolina National Guard’s Director of Joint Staff where he manages day to day operations of the Army and Air staff, special staff, state operations and is the Joint Force Headquarters installation commander.
Biography: Colonel Todd Hunt assumed his duties as the Director of Joint Staff, Joint Force Headquarters, North Carolina National Guard on 1 March 2016. In this capacity he manages day to day operations of the Joint Staff, Special Staff, Coordinating Staff, and State Operations with an additional duty as Installation Commander.
COL Hunt received his commission in 1987 through the Army ROTC Department at East Carolina University; where he also received a Bachelor of Science in Geology and a Minor in Military Science. Commissioned as an aviation officer, COL Hunt completed initial rotary-wing aviation training at Fort Rucker, Alabama in 1990.
COL Hunt served in multiple leadership roles as a Platoon Leader, Company Commander, Detachment Commander, Battalion SS Operations Officer, Battalion Executive Officer, two Battalion Commands, 1-130th Aviation Regiment (Attack) and 2-130th Airfield Operations Battalion at Fort Bragg, NC. He deployed twice for named operations, once to Kuwait in 1998 as the Detachment Commander of Company (E) 130 Aviation (Operation Desert Fox) and again to Afghanistan as the Executive Officer for the 1-130th Aviation (Attack) and Task Force Panther in 2005.
COL Hunt served as the Brigade Commander of the 449th Theater Aviation Brigade in 2010 followed by his assignment as the J-3 Joint Operations Officer for the North Carolina National Guard.
COL Hunt is rated in numerous aircraft, which include the UH-1 Iroquois, OH-58 Kiowa, AH-64 Apache (to include D model, Longbow) and the LUH-72 Lakota. He is a graduate of several military courses and he holds a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
He resides in Cary, NC with his wife, Kim and two sons, Jack and Ben.
