Passing of Former KAOEF Trustee, Andy Heyward
Andrew H. “Andy” Heyward III (Gamma–Georgia ’53) passed away peacefully at the age of eighty-one in his home surrounded with family on the evening of Thursday, December 8, 2016 after a lengthily illness.
The son of Andrew Hasell Heyward Jr. (Kappa–Mercer ’23) and Mildred Goodrum, Andy was born on December 20, 1934 in New York, New York. The family returned to Macon, GA, where he graduated from Lanier Boys High School then attended the University of Georgia. While attending, he was initiated into the Gamma chapter of Kappa Alpha Order and served as Number I. He was also inducted into the Gridiron Secret Society. After serving in the U.S. Army for two and a half years, he then went on to meet the love of his life, Carol Inman Heyward at Wesleyan College.
Andy had a successful career with NorthWestern Mutual Life insurance company for 48 years. He was a founding member of the Board of Advisors for the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Georgia, he was emeritus Trustee of Wesleyan College, after serving on the board for many years, and he also served as a trustee of the Kappa Alpha Educational Foundation from 1998 to 2000, and 2003. Andy was a member of the Loyal Order and the John L. Hardeman Province Court of Honor.
Andy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol Inman Heyward; son, Andrew Hasell Heyward IV; daughter and son-in-law, Laura Ellen Heyward McLochlin and James T. McLochlin; grandchildren, Caroline Heyward McLochlin, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Inman McLochlin, and Michael James McLochlin; sister, Bunny Heyward Clarke; and nieces, Katherine Clarke Buckner and Caroline Clarke Boggs and family.
