Acadiana Alumni Shoot for Charity
About 40 attendees, with some 30 of them being current Louisiana-area actives and alumni, participated in the 2nd Annual Acadiana Skeet Shoot Tournament, presented by the Acadiana Alumni Association. Association president Harlan Kappel (Gamma Phi–University of Louisiana, Lafayette ’92) reported that silent auctions for a good quality bow and a shotgun were held, and that a 20-gauge shotgun was awarded to the winner of the shoot. After the first skeet shoot that wasn’t all that successful in 2017, this second annual event in Maurice, Louisiana delivered a healthy $6,000 profit. Of that total, $2,000 was donated to support Heroes on the Water, a non-profit veterans’ charity that creates alternative therapeutic programs for veterans, active-duty military personnel, first responders and their families. Additionally, another $2,000 was donated to the Kappa Alpha Order Educational Foundation (KAOEF), the 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides grants for educational programs of Kappa Alpha Order, such as the Number I’s Leadership Institute and enhanced Province Councils, as well as scholarships to deserving graduate and undergraduate students.
“For our 2nd year the turnout was great,” said Kappel, a Morgan City businessman with a BS degree in geology with a math minor from UL Lafayette. “We had a blast! We look forward to seeing everyone at our next social event.”
