Competition water skiers and brothers Reagan Burns (Gamma Tau–Sam Houston State ‘16) and Chandler Burns (Gamma Tau–Sam Houston State ‘17) are slated to appear online and in print in an Academy Sports + Outdoors catalog representing the company’s “O’Rageous” brand of life vests. The Burns brothers spent a 12-hour day doing a water photo shoot for Academy wearing the vests on a 2,400-foot competition ski lake near Conroe, Texas, where they were pulled by a boat driven by their father, Gary A. Burns (Delta Sigma–Houston Baptist University ’83).

“Academy’s corporate headquarters is located in Katy, Texas, and they contacted us because someone who worked there was searching for a private ski lake nearby to conduct the photo shoot,” Reagan said. “They thought the location would work perfectly, and the director, who had seen pictures on our social media accounts, but had not seen us ski in person, asked for us to put on their new 2019 ‘O’Rageous’ brand life vests and ski, and said they would put us in the catalog ads and online.” The lake is also the home tournament lake site of the Texas A&M water ski team, which Reagan was formerly a member of.

“Our dad drives the boat most of the time for us,” he continued, “so it was only natural to have him pull us. He also member of the Texas A&M water skiing team in college, as well as a show skier, skiing in shows for AstroWorld, SeaWorld and many others. So naturally, he passed on his love and passion for water skiing and taught us how to ski when we were around three years old. He also naturally passed on the desire and values for us to be KAs as well, and he attended and participated in both mine and my brother’s initiations, which was really special for us. And I was an active when my brother was initiated, so my dad and I both participated. Chandler held the Number VII position at the same time I was the Number IX. We have both loved being KAs as well as skiing, and have taught some of our KA brothers how to ski.”

Chandler Burns is a senior this year pursuing a degree in construction management, while Reagan is a law clerk at Krenek Law Offices in Katy, awaiting law school. The Academy ad with the Burns brothers displaying their skiing skills is slated to appear early next summer.
