Passing of George Randall Smith, Former Graves Province Commander
George Randall “Randy” Smith (Iota–Furman ’59), former Graves Province Commander, passed away on Monday, December 31, at the age of seventy-eight.
Randy was a native and lifelong resident of the Greenville/Taylors area and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1962 from Furman University. He was an active member of Taylors First Baptist Church for over 45 years, serving on many committees at the church. Randy coached basketball and little league baseball. Following his retirement after a respected accounting career in the corporate world, Randy founded and was president of Randy Smith & Associates, Accountant and Tax Consultant, until his passing. Randy loved the beach and all of the many friends he met along the way. He was a member of the Carolina Shag Club, serving as treasurer and President. He was inducted into the Greenville Area Shaggers Hall of Fame in May, 2015.
Randy served as the Graves Province Commander from 2007 to 2013. He was a member of the Loyal Order, Forever KA, and the Crimson & Gold Society. He was a member of the Greater Greenville Alumni Chapter and the Graves Province Court of Honor. In 2007, for his excellence in service and leadership to the Order, he was awarded the Knight Commander’s Accolade by then Knight Commander Ben W. Satcher, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Gwyn, three children, and a large extended family. Funeral services were held on Friday, January 4, 2019, at Taylors First Baptist Church and Randy was buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
