Passing of T. Michael Cobb, Former Hamilton Court of Honor Registrar/Preceptor
T. Michael “Mike” Cobb (Beta Upsilon–Marshall ’65), former Registrar and Preceptor for the Hamilton Province Court of Honor passed away on January 7, 2019, at the age of seventy-four. From his full obituary, “The beliefs by which Mike lived his life were embodied in his college fraternity Kappa Alpha Order.”
Mike was a graduate of Marshall University where he met and married his wife Nancy. After retiring from the State of West Virginia, Mike and Nancy enjoyed several years of watching Marshall University sports. In 2012 they built their beloved getaway, a log home on the Greenbrier River where they spent many hours fishing, enjoying the bounty of God’s scenery and the food and fellowship of newly found friends near their home.
In 2000, he was involved with the rechartering of Beta Upsilon at Marshall. Beginning in 2002, along with Larry Ledsome (Beta Upsilon–Marshall ’59) and Carroll Hoffman (Beta Upsilon–Marshall ’61), Mike led the re-organization of the William Sprigg Hamilton Province Court of Honor. He served as Registrar from 2004 to 2013 and as Preceptor from 2015 to 2018. Mike was a member of the Loyal Order, a past member of the KAOEF’s Crimson & Gold Society and was a Sesquicentennial donor. In 2015, he and his wife Nancy endowed three grouped paper mulberry trees, as part of the KAOEF’s Tree Endowment program at Mulberry Hill, in honor and memory of himself, Larry, and Carroll.
He is survived by Nancy, his wife of 53 years, his brother, and a large extended family. A memorial service will be held at 1 P.M. on Friday, January 11, at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary, 328 6th Avenue, Huntington, West Virginia 25701.
