South Carolina KA Helps Lacrosse Team Win National Championship
On May 11, 2019 freshman Andrew Cooke (Rho–South Carolina ’18) and the South Carolina Gamecocks Club Lacrosse Team won the MCLA National Championship in Salt Lake City, Utah. The team knocked off the number one seed California 13-8 to win the national tournament.
Their route to the National Championship included beating Santa Clara, Liberty, and Chapman. The Gamecocks went 21-2 on the season and had featured wins against Clemson, Georgia twice, and Georgia Tech. The team won the SELC tournament at the end of the year, which gave them a bid into the MCLA tournament in Salt Lake City. They were the first SELC team to win the MCLA championship.
“Rho Chapter is very proud of Andrew Cooke,” Number I Jack M. Fallon Jr. said. “He a recipient of the Frances Y. & Joseph M. Pearson Award, a scholarship started through the UofSC Foundation in 1997 for Rho Chapter, that is given to the freshman with the highest overall GPA.”
