High Point KA Interns with MLB
High Point University rising senior Paul Clark is interning at Major League Baseball in New York City this summer.
Clark, a business administration major with communication, finance and marketing minors at HPU, is working in MLB’s Office of the Commissioner in New York City.
“Every day is different depending on what happens on the field,” says Clark. “I assist with assessing discipline, uniform violations, strategizing to better the game of baseball and more. I have also led a project of improving facility regulations for future ballparks.”
Clark says he is grateful for the skills he has learned from HPU that he is using in the real-world.
“HPU provides many opportunities to get involved on campus and outside of the classroom,” says Clark. “I’ve been able to gain great experience by working in operations in HPU’s intramural sports department. I was also the president of the club baseball team which has helped in my role at the MLB.”
Clark also attributes the necessary skills he received to land the internship to his position as treasurer of his fraternity, Kappa Alpha Order, as well as his time working with the sports broadcasting club at HPU.
“It’s been an awesome experience being able to work hands-on with MLB executives,” says Clark. “I’ve gained a lot of knowledge, been able to network with some outstanding people, and have worked on multiple projects for the future of baseball.”
Professionally, he notes that much of his confidence and the ability to quickly launch his career is due to services provided by HPU’s Office of Career and Professional Development, as well as the mentorship of his business communications professor, Professor Steve Alberts.
“He would go out of his way to make sure I was on the right path,” says Clark. “His teaching style was very hands-on, and I gained many professional skills from his business communications class.”
