LSU Raises $8k for MDA
Baton Rouge, La. — The Alpha Gamma chapter of Kappa Alpha at Louisiana State University was honored Thursday, May 2nd by the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The chapter collected $8,280 through their annual silent auction event and placed 5th in the nation of 80 chapters for their semester efforts 2018-9. LSU chapter President Christopher Lowder and Philanthropy Chairman Gray Cressy oversaw the fundraising activities this year.
“They did a great job,” Kayla Falgout, Development Director of MDA, said. “The Kappa Alpha’s at Louisiana State University have worked hard to help MDA since the late ’70s. There are no shortcuts in fundraising. Despite a demanding academic schedule, they have made time to help other people.”
Kappa Alpha fuels MDA’s commitment to transforming the lives of people affected by muscular dystrophy, ALS and related neuromuscular diseases. Funds raised by Kappa Alpha events help MDA save lives and lift those up in need, by providing the MDA with vital resources to advance their mission of driving innovations in science and care for the neuromuscular community.
Contributions have helped fund groundbreaking research and life-enhancing programs such as state-of-the-art support groups and Care Centers, including four multi-disciplinary MDA Care Centers Children’s Clinic and Neuromuscular Clinic located at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, an adult Care Center and MDA/ALS Care Center located at LSU Healthcare Network in New Orleans. They also help send more than 95 Louisiana kids to “the best week of the year” at MDA summer camp at Camp Starlite located at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, LA – all at no cost to their families.
For more than 40 years, the members of Kappa Alpha Order (KA) have raised nearly $3 million – through KA chapters across the country – for the Muscular Dystrophy Association – their national philanthropy.
“The KA’s wouldn’t have been able to achieve this without the generosity of the people in Baton Rouge,” Cressy said. “It speaks well not only for the Alpha Gamma chapter but the good people.”
