Randolph-Macon Restored as Zeta Chapter

On Thursday, November 11th, 2019, at the Birdsong Hall on campus of Ranolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, Knight Commander C. Douglas Simmons III (Beta Tau–Mississippi State ’95) re-issued the Zeta Charter to the gentlemen of the Randolph-Macon College Provisional Chapter. The ceremony and banquet were well attended by alumni and guests.

The Provisional Chapter received its provisional certificate in November 2018, and since then the chapter has grown to 30 members and achieved a 3.108 GPA in the spring semester of 2019. The R-MC Provisional Chapter has raised a total of nearly $1,500 to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Homes for Our Troops through an on-campus bake sale. The chapter has also completed a total of over 250 community service hours over the past year, volunteering mainly with the Humane Society, Ducks Unlimited, Macon a Difference Day, and Tad’s Kids. Tad’s Kids is an organization that honors the life of Tad DuPriest, a Zeta chapter member who tragically died in a car accident, by supporting children and their families throughout Central Virginia.

Members hold officer positions with organizations including the Interfraternity Council Executive Board, Ducks Unlimited, and College Republicans at R-MC. Members are also actively involved on the Varsity Baseball, Lacrosse, and Swimming teams, as campus tour guides, orientation leaders, and in the Future Business Leaders of America club. Sixty-three percent of chapter members are actively involved in at least one student organization outside of KA. Additionally, the chapter’s Number I, Grayson Hubbard, was named Outstanding Fraternity President for the 2018-2019 academic year, which recognizes the top chapter president on campus.

Members of the Provisional Chapter were initiated into Kappa Alpha Order on Saturday, November 9th at the Washington-Franklin Hall on campus by members of the Zeta Theta Chapter at James Madison University and Epsilon Phi Chapter at George Mason University.
