Texas State Alumnus Named Baseball Coach of the Year by SETCA
The Southeast Texas Coaches Association (SETCA) named Jacob C. Hooker (Epsilon Iota–Texas State ’01) as the 2019 Baseball Coach of the Year during their annual Hall of Honor Banquet and Coach of the Year Presentation in Beaumont on January 25, 2020.
“I am very thankful for the COY plaque and the recognition of the state championship,” Hooker stated.
Hooker is an alumnus of Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. There, he obtained a Bachelor of Exercise Sports Sciences, with a Minor in history.
Hooker is a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association, and Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association, and Houston Baseball Coaches Association. In 2018-19, Hooker was named the Southeast Texas Coaches Association All-Star Coach, Texas Sports Writer Association State Coach of the Year, and the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Coach.
Hooker has served as the varsity baseball coach for Big Sandy Baseball, and under his leadership, he brought back-to-back UIL State Championships in 2018 and 2019 to Dallardsville with a cumulative record of 132-21-2 during his tenure there. His all-time record as a head coach is 189-47-3, and all of his teams during his 7 years as a head baseball coach have made post-season appearances.
In June of 2019, Hooker took the head coach role of the 5A Boswell High School Pioneers Baseball Team in Frot Worth, Texas.
Jacob and his wife, Johnna have been married for 8 years. Together, they have a daughter Josi.
