Ole Miss Alumnus Elected to Mississippi House of Representatives
In the November 5th, 2019 general election, Clay Deweese (Alpha Upsilon–Mississippi ’01) won a seat in the Mississippi House of Representatives. He defeated Tiffany Kilpatrick for Mississippi’s 12th District.
Clay said that he is excited and honored to represent the people of District 12 in a press release announcing his candidacy. “The opportunity to represent not only Oxford and Lafayette County, but also the state’s flagship University where we met and earned our degrees is humbling,” he continued.
Hoping to have an impact on improving education in order to improve business, Clay hopes to create an environment in Oxford where business owners and workers can thrive. “Job creation and workforce development for our community will also be a top focus of mine – working to invest more in the people of Mississippi, our greatest resource,” he also said in the press release.
Originally from Clarksdale, Mississippi, Clay graduated in 2004 from the Univerity of Mississippi where he met his wife Katie. Clay is the owner and operator of Nix-Tann & Associates, a local real estate company. He and his wife have lived in Oxford since 2000 and have two children: Rhett and Tinson.
