Dr. Saloom Joins KAOEF Board of Trustees

The Kappa Alpha Order Educational Foundation welcomes our newest trustee, Dr. Russell J. Saloom, MD (Gamma Phi–Louisiana-Lafayette ’74), who is joining the Board for the first time.

Russell J. Saloom, M.D., is a 1974 initiate of Gamma Phi Chapter at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. A longtime KA volunteer and donor to the KAOEF, Dr. Saloom is a member of the Horace H. White Province Court of Honor, the Loyal Order, the Crimson & Gold Society, 1865 Trust, and served on the planning committee for the 78th Convention in New Orleans. He currently serves as an advisor to the Epsilon Kappa Chapter at Southeastern Louisiana where his son, James, is the Number I. Dr. Saloom is a huge LSU sports fan and serves as the team eye doctor for football and basketball.

Dr. Russell J. Saloom is board certified in ophthalmology and fellowship-trained in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. This unique combination of certifications, along with a doctorate in medicine, enhances his expertise in structural facial surgery. There are only seven surgeons with such credentials in Louisiana.

A graduate of LSU School of Medicine, Dr. Saloom completed his residency at the LSU Eye Center. He then received fellowship training in eye and facial plastic surgery at the Tulane University Medical Center and serves as a clinical instructor with that institution. He has been in private practice in Baton Rouge Since 1990.

Dr. Saloom was the first physician in the Gulf South United States to perform laser skin resurfacing. He works with several of the world’s largest medical laser companies to instruct and certify hundreds of physicians from across the United States in laser resurfacing and laser surgical techniques. He was also one of the first eight physicians in the United States to offer the Epi Laser for hair removal. Dr. Saloom serves as a national instructor to physicians on laser hair removal.
