Former Irwin Province Commander Jason Barrett (Beta Tau–Mississippi State ’98) has been named director of Mississippi State University’s Water Resources Research Institute (WRRI) after previously serving in associate and interim roles. Since joining the institute in 2020, Barrett has led efforts focused on water quality, agricultural sustainability, and community water systems across Mississippi.
WRRI serves as a key hub for water research and outreach, addressing issues ranging from irrigation and soil health to safe drinking water through programs like SipSafe. Dr. Barrett’s work emphasizes applying research to real-world challenges, supporting growers, training future scientists, and assisting communities with water infrastructure.
An award-winning Extension specialist with nearly two decades of experience, Barrett brings a strong background in research, outreach, and collaboration to his new leadership role.
