2012-2013 KAOEF Scholarships Available
Thank you for your interest in the scholarship program of the Kappa Alpha Order Educational Foundation (KAOEF). Made possible through the annual gifts of KA alumni across the country, the scholarship program is an integral part of the Foundation’s activity. The generosity of our donors who make these scholarships possible is living proof of the fact that KA is truly “a lifetime experience.”

ONLINE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
When completed properly, this application qualifies you for all grants for which you are eligible, including those restricted to a specific chapter or geographical region. It consists of 6 parts, each of which must be completed and returned:
1. General information
2. Statement-of-Need Form (optional)
3. Recommendations (minimum of 3; you may attach them to the form or sent hard copy)
*can be used for the E. Fleming Mason Memorial Internship application)
4. Transcripts (send in the mail)
5. Photo of yourself (REQUIRED – attach to the online form)
6. Join the Kappa Alpha Order Educational Foundation Cause Page at www.causes.com/kaoef (Highly encouraged to join)
*other than your transcript, all portions of this application may be completed online.
As you complete the application, please keep in mind the following:
- Recommendation Letters – Make sure the letter includes your full name. To each person you ask to complete a recommendation letter, provide a stamped envelope addressed to the KAOEF. Advise them of the February 3, 2012 deadline. Three recommendations are required, more are welcome. It is suggested, but not required, that one letter of recommendation come from each of the following categories and that at least one letter support your financial need:
- A faculty member, preferably in your major field.
- An administrative official of your institution or the alumni advisor of your chapter.
- Anyone who has known you well for at least one year, but who is not a member of your immediate family.
- Be sure to follow-up on the letters of recommendation prior to the deadline to make sure they have been submitted. Originals are preferred, but recommendation letters may be faxed to the KAOEF at (540) 463-2140 to meet the deadline, if absolutely necessary. Please note that KAOEF Scholarship Applicants can use their recommendations for the E. Fleming Mason Memorial Internship.
- Request each college or university that you have attended to send an official transcript to the KAOEF. Be sure to follow-up with each school prior to the deadline to be sure the information has been mailed. (Faxed transcripts will NOT be accepted.)
- Attach a 500K sized photograph file of yourself. It should be a head & shoulders shot. The picture is for possible publication in The Kappa Alpha Journal when recipients are announced & is not used in deciding scholarship recipients. A photo is REQUIRED.
- Complete the online application not later than February 3, 2012. Your application is not complete and cannot be forwarded to the Scholarship Committee until all 6 parts have been received. You are encouraged to contact Lisa Metivier (lmetivier@ka-order.org) at the Kappa Alpha Order National Administrative Office prior to the deadline and check the status of your application. - Letters notifying each applicant of the Scholarship Committee decisions will be mailed in June.
Important:
- When completing the online application, your session may time out if open for an extended period of time. If this happens all information will be lost. It is suggested that you type all answers in a word processing document first and then cut and paste your answers into the online application.
- Please remember that it is your responsibility to follow-up with all institutions providing transcripts and with all persons providing recommendations on your behalf. If all necessary transcripts and/or recommendations are not received you will not be eligible to receive a scholarship.
- Please send in your official transcript, recommendation letters, and any other materials needed to complete your 2012-2013 KAOEF scholarship application to Lisa Metivier at the National Administrative Office as soon as possible. We are unable to check the completion of each individual application the weeks leading up to the deadline.
