HISTORY
The Argyle began in 1854 as the headquarters of a vast ranch stretching from downtown San Antonio to Boerne, later serving as a place of hospitality that welcomed guests such as Robert E. Lee and even functioned as an arsenal during the Civil War. In 1884, two Scots purchased the property, added a third floor, and named it “Argyle” after the hills that reminded them of their homeland. At the turn of the century, Miss Alice O’Grady transformed it into a renowned dining destination. Restored in 1956, The Argyle has since become a unique private club dedicated to supporting the Texas Biomedical Research Institute, serving as a gathering place where members and benefactors help advance vital medical research.
