Louisiana-Monroe Alumnus Founds Non-Profit with a New Approach to Corrections and Community Impact

Tom Beasley (Gamma Nu–Louisiana-Monroe ’99) is known for his pioneering role in the creation of CoreCivic, formerly the Corrections Corporation of America. In the early 1980s, Beasley, alongside co-founders T. Don Hutto and Doctor Crants, launched a company with a bold vision: to bring innovation and efficiency to the correctional system, a sector previously dominated exclusively by government-run facilities. Beasley’s idea sparked a new industry, aiming to address the overcrowding and inefficiencies plaguing public prisons. CoreCivic’s mission evolved beyond traditional corrections, focusing on reentry and rehabilitation, always with a commitment to serving communities and improving public safety.
