The Zeta Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order at the University of Nevada, Reno, achieved a remarkable milestone by raising over $41,000 during their annual Independence Fund Philanthropy Week. This amount stands as the highest philanthropic contribution by any Greek organization on campus this year.

The fundraising efforts were highlighted by the second annual “Battle of the Badges” basketball game, held on April 6, 2025. This event featured a spirited matchup between members of the Reno Police and Fire Departments and attracted more than 300 attendees, including first responders, university students, and local community members. The event also featured food trucks and drink vendors, enhancing the community atmosphere.

In addition to the basketball game, the chapter organized various events throughout the week, including a sorority sand volleyball tournament at their chapter house. These activities collectively contributed to the substantial funds raised for The Independence Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing track chairs to wounded veterans, thereby enhancing their mobility and independence.

“This year we raised over $41,000 in support of the Independence Fund. This was the largest sum of philanthropy money raised by any other Greek organization on campus at UNR,” said Caden Jackson, Historian of the Zeta Delta Chapter.

The chapter’s efforts not only demonstrate their commitment to service but also highlight the impact that coordinated philanthropic activities can have on both the community and the beneficiaries. The funds raised will go towards providing track chairs to local veterans, with presentations planned during halftime at an upcoming UNR football game.
