Captain Ronald C. Plunkett, U.S. Army (Ret.) (Theta Commission–Citadel ’09), was inducted into the Charleston RiverDogs’ Military Hall of Honor on July 2, 2025, during the team’s Boeing Military Appreciation Night. This recognition honors his military service, professional achievements, and dedication to civic and fraternal leadership.
Plunkett graduated from The Citadel in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and later earned a Master of Arts in English in 1996. He was inducted into three honor societies—Phi Alpha Theta, Pi Sigma Alpha, and Sigma Tau Delta—and is a life member of Phi Kappa Phi. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, serving from 1964 to 1968 in Korea and Vietnam and achieving the rank of Captain in 1967. He continued serving in the Army Reserve until 1972 and earned more than a dozen service, combat, and campaign medals.
Following his military career, Plunkett worked for Sea-Land Service, Inc. for 40 years, retiring in 2009 as a Senior Account Executive. He received multiple awards, including the Salesman of the Year and CSX Corporation’s Master’s Award. He also served as General Chairman of the South Carolina International Trade Conference in 1974.
In Charleston, Plunkett is Chief of Staff to Medal of Honor recipient Major General James E. Livingston and serves as Charleston Regional Coordinator for the Saint John Volunteer Corps. His many honors include The Citadel’s Palmetto Medal, the Order of the Palmetto, the Silver Beaver Award from Scouting USA, and the Knight Commander’s Accolade from Kappa Alpha Order. He serves on the advisory boards for The Citadel’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences and The Salvation Army.
Initiated into Kappa Alpha Order by the Theta Commission in 2009, Plunkett has served as Recording Secretary and is a member of the Charleston Alumni Chapter. He has been inducted into the Frampton Province Court of Honor and is a member of the Order’s Military Division, The Loyal Order, the 1865 Trust, and the Crimson & Gold Society.
He is married to Dr. Linda Muckenfuss Plunkett, a retired professor of accounting at the College of Charleston. They have two children and two grandchildren.
