KA Active Members Riley Miller (Alpha Kappa–Missouri ’23), Jake Carvalho (Zeta Omega–Coastal Carolina ’23), Ahmed Ezzaki (Beta Kappa–Maryland ’23), and Gavin Adams (Zeta Alpha–Colorado ’23) recently joined the Fraternal Government Relations Coalition (FGRC), to lobby Congress along with hundreds of Greek students, including Pi Kappa Alpha member from North Carolina, Ishon Liao, pictured with our team.
Alumni lobbyists included National Staff members, Jesse Lyons, Brent Fellows, Anthony Graziani, Evan Hanna, Former Knight Commander Ben Satcher, as well as dedicated volunteer and former staff member Jacob Seay. Split into dozens of teams, they met with Congressional staffers and many Members to advocate for the Freedom of Association in Higher Education Act (H.R. 2555/S. 1225). They had the opportunity to speak to members of Congress including Rep. Virginia Foxx and KA alumnus, Rep. Addison McDowell (Zeta Zeta–Wingate ’12).

After a day on the Hill, they visited with KA alumnus Ches McDowell (Alpha Omega–North Carolina State ’11), at his lobbying firm Checkmate Government Relations. All attended the separate Fraternity and Sorority PAC Dinner later than evening. In the tunnels underneath the Congressional Buildings, Lyons also caught up Rep. Ben Cline from Virginia’s 6th District congressman, who covers the National Administrative Office at Mulberry Hill, in Lexington, Virginia.
