Dr. Idris R. Traylor Honored at Texas Tech, Gamma Chi Receives Inaugural Double T Difference Award

Dr. Idris R. Traylor honored at Texas Tech

On March 31, 2026, Former Knight Commander Dr. Idris R. Traylor was posthumously honored at the Texas Tech Fraternity and Sorority Life Awards ceremony. Each year, Texas Tech recognizes an advisor who goes above and beyond in service to their chapter with the Advisor of the Year award. In tribute to Dr. Traylor’s extraordinary legacy, this award has been renamed the Dr. Idris R. Traylor Advisor of the Year Award.

The ceremony highlighted many of Dr. Traylor’s accomplishments over a lifetime of service, and his profound impact on the Gamma Chi chapter of Kappa Alpha Order was captured well by Assistant Vice Provost for Campus Life Dr. Kimberly Thornton, who said:

“While his impact extended nationally through leadership roles, including Knight Commander, it was his personal commitment to students that defined his legacy. Dr. Traylor embodied the values of mentorship, servant leadership, and lifelong commitment to others. He set the standard for what it means to be an advisor, someone who not only leads, but walks alongside those they serve.”

Active Gamma Chi brothers Jack Davis, Cooper Ross, Harrison Taylor, and Riley McGarry were on hand to accept the dedication of the inaugural Dr. Idris R. Traylor Advisor of the Year Award, joined by KA advisors Hadly Weaver, Kirk Corbin, and Ron Childress. The Gamma Chi chapter is proud that Dr. Traylor’s legacy will endure through this award, and through the many men of Kappa Alpha Order he mentored and led.

Gamma Chi Also Receives First-Ever Double T Difference Award

Gamma Chi was also named the recipient of the very first Double T Difference Award, an honor given not through application, but solely at the discretion of Fraternity and Sorority Life leadership. The chapter earned this distinction for a standout year across every area of chapter operations, highlighted by the impressive quality and size of its new member class from Fall 2025 Recruitment. In presenting the award, FSL leadership noted:

“This chapter has elevated the standard in recruitment, retention, and overall engagement. While raising the bar, they never lost sight of who they are.”

Gamma Chi’s exemplary fall recruitment was made possible by the leadership of Chapter President John Fritzsch, the hard work of Number IV John Machtolff and the Rush Committee, and the commitment of the entire chapter to recruiting men who embody the values of a Kappa Alpha Order gentleman.

The results speak for themselves as Gamma Chi extended 74 bids and ultimately initiated 64 men into the brotherhood of Kappa Alpha Order in Fall 2025, the largest new member class in the chapter’s history.
